What is it?

The 2008 GUI Championships is an international skinning competition held every two years. Skinners from around the globe are invited to participate in several Windows GUI skinning categories to compete for great prizes and the recognition of their peers.

When is it?

The 2008 GUI Championships begins on October 13th, 2008. On that day, we will begin accepting submissions for review and posting.

What skins are being accepted?

This year we're focusing on three main areas of Windows UI skinning:

What are the events?

Each category will be comprised of three separate events:

There will also be a "Top Skinner" and "Top Team" event based on medal totals. Each event will have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner.

Who can enter?

Anyone who is a legal adult in their country of residence. The GUIC is open to skinners from across the globe.

Who will be judging?

This year we're going American Idol style for finalist and winner selection. All entries will be voted on by a panel of three judges. The top finalists based on judge voting will then be voted on by the users.

What are the rules for submissions?

The rules from 2006 are undergoing review and will likely see significant changes. However, there are a few rules that will remain the same and that you should know before the contest starts:

- All submitted work must be 100% original

You must be the sole author of the art used in the submission. No working with other skinners, no reusing elements from other skins (either your own, or others) or art.

- Work submitted to the 2008 GUIC must be new.

The GUIC must be the first place you submit a skin to. Skins that are posted on other sites prior to being submitted to the GUIC will be disqualified. Note that this does not mean you can't post some preview shots of your work in progress, just that you may not make available for download a working skin (in any stage of development)

No Windows logos, no Apple logos. No modifications or interpretations of cartoon characters, mascots, movies, games, television shows etc. We expect all designs and work to be completely original. So no making your ideal Windows Vista skin, or a Dragon Ball Z icon set.

What are the technical requirements for entries?

WindowBlinds
WindowBlinds skins must be complete and skin all major areas of the GUI. When using a skin, no default Windows OS graphics should remain. No magic pink should be visible.
WindowBlinds皮肤必须完整并且包含所有GUI的主皮肤区, 使用一个皮肤时, 不应保留默认的Windows系统图形, 不应显示粉红色(Windows皮肤里的透明色).
All skins MUST work with the latest version of WindowBlinds as of October 13th, 2008.
所有皮肤必须可以运行在2008年10月13号发布的最新WindowBlinds版本上.
You must indicate in the skin name which version of Windows it is designed for (XP, Vista or Both). You are not required to make your skin work on both XP and Vista, but those who do will have an edge in judging for showing increased technical talent.
你必须在皮肤名称中标识该作品是为哪个Windows设计的(XP或Vista, 或都适用)(也就是命名规则了), 我们并不要求你的作品在两个系统上都可运行, 但那些可以运行的作品将会在展示技术才能中(可能是技术分吧)有优势。

Icon Packages图标包
Packages submitted must be compatible with the latest version of IconPackager as of October 13th, 2008.
提交的图标包必须能和2008年10月13日的最新版IconPackager兼容.
All icons must be 256x256.
所有图标尺寸必须为256x256.
Icon packages must contain at least 55 unique icons.
包内必须包含至少55个不同的图标.
